Bye Bye MySpace

Today I logged on to MySpace to cancel my account. I could barely navigate the site after an almost four year absence (really that long? wow!) But was pleasantly surprised to find this:

MySpace gave me a badge. It's called the Old School badge. Apparently it's because I was on MySpace before it was cool. That's right.

So of course, before I could leave I had to pull down some of the best stuff still sticking around. I still love some of the stupid little .gif and decorative things I had on there like these ones...

Yup, while the rest of the world has moved on to Vampires and in Megaton's case, hobbits (lol) I'm still all about the cowboys and pirates.

And don't forget those wonderful quizzes that were all the rage to have on display on your profile.

What kind of kisser are you?

What is your personality type?

Your Personality is Very Rare (INFP)
Your personality type is dreamy, romantic, elegant, and expressive.
You are intuitive, Feeling and Perceiving

“The way you think about things makes you an Intuitive Interpreter. This means you are a highly conceptual thinker. Rather than focusing on facts and figures, you look at the big picture. You are less inclined to need to walk through something step by step to understand the logic behind it. This also lets you make connections between something you learned three weeks ago and something you are learning today. While other people need those types of connections pointed out for them, you just naturally make them. Only 6 out of 1,000 people have this rare combination of abilities.”

After being sufficiently scandalized reading many of the comments and messages my teenaged self sent and received (which I will not reveal here), I was sobered by the memory of two pretty incredible guys that I had had paid tribute to on my profile.

Joe Opatowski
 April 13, 1983 -
October 29, 2004

"I owe the inspiration of social activism to a man by the name of Joe Opatowski, who worked for Leaders Today, an affiliate of Free the Children. I had the opportunity to meet Joe when he delivered a workshop at my high school in 2003 and we stayed in contact through email after that, until he was killed by a drunk driver in late 2004. Amazing man, taken waaaay too young. Rest in Peace my man!"

Gregory Lemarchal
May 13, 1983 - April 30, 2007

Gregory was the winner of a French performance show (somewhat akin to American Idol meets the Real World) in 2004. He was a soft-hearted guy with an angelic voice, who beat the odds by putting out incredible records despite battling cystic fibrosis... after just a few amazing years in the limelight he succumbed to his disease.
