Life in Progress

Just call me master

March 24, 2015
Well, folks, the countdown is on. I am officially moving to Ontario in August. Though I've only been in Cowtown for a year and a half, being somewhat settled was starting to feel strangely unsettling. Dang restless ambition started acting up and, long story short... I'm on my way to grad school in the fall...

Living plan B and loving it

March 22, 2015
I've long referred to the path I'm on as Plan B. For a long time, I said "Plan B" like it was a dirty word, sour in my mouth. I was enveloped in a general sense of discontent, restlessly unhappy with my inability to make Plan A happen. I mean, by definition, Plan b is less desirable than Plan A- that's why it's Plan B, right? There is a...

Quick glance at 2013

December 31, 2013
I'm not going to lie, I love the end of the year. I love the cheesy top 10 lists. I love how everyone and everything goes about rehashing the best songs, the biggest newsmakers, the most memorable moments. There's something about wrapping it up into one tidy summary that makes it feel like progress, that shows you how...

25 actionable objectives for my 25th year

July 1, 2013
Well, folks, here it is. My 25th birthday. I can officially rent a car without paying ludicrous young drivers fees. Yes, I have a quarter century of life experience under my belt. What that really amounts to is open to interpretation, but as far as I'm concerned, it's enough to have a pretty good idea of what really matters going forward...

25 lives that have touched mine for good

June 26, 2013
The challenge for day 2 of 'confronting the quarterlife crisis' is to count my blessings in terms of the many friendships and associations I have enjoyed that have changed my life for the better. The purpose is to cultivate gratitude, because I find when I focus on the simple things that I have to be thankful for, I notice how lucky...

Explorer

June 25, 2013
For day one on this adventure in perspective I decided to focus on the places I've been lucky enough to explore. Since about 60 percent of my bucket list items involve some kind of travel, this is the area where I have often felt the most behind. Sometimes the nine countries I have visited seem like a woefully small amount for someone...

Confronting the quarterlife crisis

June 24, 2013
Well, here it comes... the downhill side of twenty-something. A pity too, cause according to most lists I've found online, I didn't exactly get around to a good deal of the 25 things every self-respecting-person-just-has-to-do-before-they-reach-25. I guess youth really is wasted on the young...

Bye bye Myspace

April 1, 2011
Today I logged into MySpace to cancel my account. I could barely navigate the site after an almost four year absence (really that long? wow!) But I was pleasantly surprised to find that MySpace had given me a badge. It's called the Old School badge. Apparently it's because I was on MySpace before it was cool. That's right...

The more things change... the more they stay the same

March 25, 2011
Recently, when I went looking for the original copy of my bucket list to update, I came across some journal entries that I logged as a 16-year old exchange student in France. As I read through them I was actually kind of fascinated by how close my 16-year old self was to who I am today. My interceding years of debauchery and...
